I wrote this song in 1991 during the Gulf War, thinking about the countless times armies have fought over the land which is now called Iraq.

The Persian Warrior
Once there was a Persian warrior,
Oh, this was many years ago in an-cient Babylon...
Down beside the city's walls of clay
He lay in the dark with his battle won,
Watching the stars rolling silently 'cross the heavens,
Feeling lucky, brimming with life,
Planning on how he'll find him a wife...
Maybe he'll have ten children,
Take his pension; buy him a farm;
Keep his family safe from all harm there.
Long ago there was a Persian warrior,
Drifting a-way in a long, long sleep, a deep, deep sleep.
