Heard Booker Ervin? - playlist page on Lala.com

Booker Ervin was a jazz tenor saxophonist from Texas. Like many other Texas tenormen, he had a hard, high, wailing sound on his horn.

He was favored by bassist Charles Mingus and pianist Randy Weston and did long stints in their bands.

He frequently recorded with a monstrously capable rhythm section: Jaki Byard, piano, Richard Davis, bass and Alan Dawson, drums. Their recordings with Ervin (The Blues Book, The Space Book, The Freedom Book) are excellent.
