On my iPhone using this site's Chord Grid page, I invented the 8-measure chord progression that begins this piece, while waiting for my son to have his teeth cleaned at the dentist this afternoon.

This Chord Grid link will play you that 8-measure invention if you press the "Play Chord List" button that appears below the Chord List type-in box to the right of the large Chord Grid array that is shown on the page.

Before he was done, I launched the progression that I found as a Tunetext. I experimented with different ways to continue that progression by typing additional chord symbols into Tunetext editing panel for that chord-only score until I had the complete 16-measure chord sequence that accompanies this piece:

This Tunetext link will play the complete 16-measure chord sequence that this piece is built upon.

Still using the iPhone, I copied the chord sequence spec out of the Tunetext editing view, and pasted it into an empty newly launched Tonematrix page on SongTrellis. Over there, I invented a one measure tonematrix pattern that repeated through every measure of that progression.

The melody sounded like it plausibly fit the harmony of the chord sequence, but seemed like it needed improved note choices and a more varied rhythm.

Follow this tonematrix link to hear what I had at this point in my composing process.

After supper, I Air Dropped the URL for the single measure Tonematrix pattern over to my MacBook Pro, so that I could take advantage of the additional screen real estate that this provides so that one can create and view a larger tonematrix .

On the Mac, I unfolded the original one measure tonematrix into a 16-measure tonematrix design, so that I could vary the original one measure loop, wherever it seemed the orignal composition needed improvement.

In the original loop, I disliked that measure 4 played exact melody as measure 2, since an Abmi7 chord was played in both measures. Now that the loop was unfolded, I shifted the pattern for measure 4 up one row in the matrix and liked how that sounded.

Since the rhythm of the first four measures was unchanging, I selected and reversed the matrix patterns for measures 5 and 7, and liked the variety that introduced in the invention.

In measure 10, I selected all of the matrix columns in the measure and rotated the pattern 4 columns to the left, which shifted beats 2, 3 and 4 of the pattern one beat earlier, and moved the first beat of the pattern so that it became the 4th beat of the revised measure,

In measure 12, I selected the entire pattern of the measure and moved it up one row. Also selected the 4 16th note pattern that played in the last beat of the measure and reversed it's pitch sequence.

In measure 14, I inverted the pattern so that the direction of every pitch in the melody was reversed, while the pitches were still mapped to pitches of the accompanying chord.

Finally in measure 15, I inverted the original pattern and the reversed that pattern of pitches and rests within that measure from the original loop.

After these changes were made, I finally liked the result enough to publish the piece.

Here's a Tonematrix link that shows how the piece looked and sounded when I finished revising the original tonematrix loop.

Using the Tonematrix page, I launched a Tunetext page to produce a sheet music score for the piece, and to save a MIDI and MP3 version of the score.

I posted the sheet music and mp3 performance to this page.
